The story begins under an old oak tree in a normal setting much like any you would see. An elderly gentleman with snow white hair, wearing a flannel shirt and khaki pants, sits in a rocker as he transforms his front porch into a theatre. But, this is not just any theatre, for its audience travels back in time. Not only do they hear the stories, they live them, feel them, and sense all the emotions connected with the experience. In the beginning it seems there is a lonely old man who needs someone to listen to him. However, as the tales come to life, it is the audience who needs the kind gentleman. As they beg for more, the wise old man says, If you want to hear more, you ll have to come back next Saturday at one o clock. If I am able, I will be right here in my rocker. The crowds grow and grow. Now not only are the children fascinated and wanting more, the parents eagerly anticipate the end of the story. Finally the much anticipated day arrives for the secret of 121 Oak Street to be revealed. Why not join us as the mystery unfolds? You will be glad you did, and that s a promise.

Delightfully told, with the air of an innocent fairy tale, this story would be satisfying to a child, and perhaps even more so to the more mature among us who wish to be heard and appreciated by eager listeners. The story opens with an old man, and a single listener at his feet. “The old man leaned back into his rocking chair, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath to gather his thoughts.” As his story unfolds, “Not a child moved a muscle, but all listened intently,” as the story comes to life, and as the characters are fleshed out. “They knew that once Blackbeard and his men had regrouped they would be chasing after them.” By the time the story comes to its close, a multitude of listeners await anxiously to hear the old man. “This time the grownups were pushed into the streets by a host of children all taking their seats on the lawns, steps and sidewalks.
A lovely story. Five stars.

121 Oak Street Roger D Grubbs 9781612550046 Books Reviews
Roger wrote this book, with all ages in mind, it is amazing to have an older man reading to one child, that turns to more children, I think the moral to this story is, if more would read to our children, then they will want to read and take adventures themselves through books. This adventure book was so well written, another Grubbs classic of you better have time to read, without having to put it down...
The novel 121 Oak Street is a very interesting novel and very creative. The authors technique too tell a story of pirates and adventures did seem a little cliche at first. The use of pirates and adventures at seas seems too always be the pinnacle of childhood fantasies; even though this fantasy is a bit outdated i feel the author was able to create a very decent novel and bridged the gap between what child though of as adventure in the past and now. However the old mans technique to get the boys to read the novel on their own was pretty clever. This is a very useful technique in teaching, to find what interests the pupil and let them discover that they want to learn. Also patience seems to be present in the story between each session of the old gentleman telling his stories. I feel that this novel was indeed well written; it is apparent that this is a new author. the form of the writing indicates a ounce of inexperience but with time will more than likely develop into a very sensible and crafty style of writing that will attract many readers.
The novel was very fun to read, the author said the reason behind his writing this novel was to entertain the readers; this goal was ascertained very quickly, My usually reads consist of mystery novels and thrillers however i would be lying if i said that if i saw a novel by Roger Grubbs that i wouldn't read the summary and possibly buy it, I enjoyed this novel greatly and was thoroughly entertained,
